where we are all a work in progress…
Andrew Finkelstein, LAC

You are a complex and dynamic individual and a rich, dynamic, complex inner experience. You think deeply and feel deeply, but the world doesn't seem to match your depth and sincerity. Your relationships and achievements have been growing less and less fulfilling and meaningful, while the sense that you've lost something grows bigger and bigger. You often find yourself experiencing tension between what you tell yourself you "should" be feeling and what you're actually feeling. This mismatch is growing increasingly worrisome, as you find yourself entering states of anxiety and depression that are starting to affect your daily life.
You have tried speaking to those close to you about what you've been experiencing but find that you hide the extent of your troubles and downplay the severity of them. You want to find someone you trust who allows you to be honest with yourself.
I help pre-teens, teens, adults and young adults who feel that they are not in control of their lives. They feel they are not living up to their potential and that life is just passing them by. My work with clients aims at providing them the space where they can discover and explore what provides meaning and fulfillment in their lives. In attempting to confront or avoid this discomfort and pain, many of my clients have previously engaged in maladaptive or unhealthy behaviors, but to no avail. As my clients discover that they have within them the ability to take back the steering wheel, they experience change over their time in therapy not just in their sense of self, but in their relationships, careers, interactions with others, and self-confidence.
For over 10 years I have worked with clients who experience anxiety, depression, grief, meaninglessness, substance abuse and dependency, and behavioral addictions such as gambling and problematic internet/pornography use.
My clients typically see me on a weekly basis so that they have consistent support and accountability, and can feel that they are gaining back control. Therapy doesn't have to feel intimidating or intrusive; it can be a space where your dormant potential is finally recognized and allowed to emerge.
